Lab Associates at the LACEA and Latin American and Caribbean Meeting of the Econometric Society

Professors Marcela Mello and Jorge Rodriguez recently presented their researches at event held in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA) and the Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the Econometric Society (LAMES), in join work held the event which gathered over 500 participants, took place between November 14th to 16th at the Universidad de la República (Udelar), in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Marcella Melo presented her paper titled “Religious Mayors, Teenage Pregnancy, and Sexual Education in Schools.“ which examines the effect of mayors from Pentecostal parties on teenage pregnancy rates and the provision of sexual education in public schools. At the conference also participated the professor Jorge Rodriguez with his paper titled “Welfare Effects of Childcare Policies.”

“The event was excellent. There were many interesting papers, high-quality keynotes, and opportunities to meet and interact with other professors. Additionally, I received very good feedback on my work,” said the academic Marcela Mello.

The LACEA-LAMES conference is recognized for its impact and relevance which allowed the participants to discuss their research but also provided a relaxed environment and enriching dialogues. According to professor Mello “The overall atmosphere was very relaxed, making it a great opportunity to meet people from other universities.”

This year was special for the conference cause of the 45th anniversary of LAMES and the 300 anniversary of the foundation of Montevideo.
