Academics from the Human Development Lab Participate in International Conferences and Seminars on Education Economics.

From debates on artificial intelligence to labor policies, HDL has taken its research to key forums, strengthening global networks and collaborations.

The affiliated academics of the Human Development Lab (HDL) continue to expand their international presence and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in education economics through active participation in prestigious conferences and seminars worldwide. Over the course of this year, the center has been represented at several key events, where research was presented and new opportunities for collaborative research were explored.

This year, members of the Human Development Lab attended the Society of Labor Economists (SOLE) conference in Portland, Oregon, where studies related to labor policies and female labor supply were presented. This event served as a fundamental space for exchanging ideas and consolidating collaboration networks among researchers in labor economics.

The Human Development Lab also participated in various seminars held in key cities across Europe and the Americas. In London, academics from the center attended the seminar at the London School of Economics (LSE). In Rio de Janeiro, they took part in a seminar organized by PUC-Rio, and in São Paulo, they participated in a seminar organized by the Fundação Getulio Vargas.

In October, several members of the center attended the Regional Artificial Intelligence Meeting in Montevideo, Uruguay, organized by the World Bank and the IDB. During this event, the implications of artificial intelligence in education were discussed, exploring its potential to transform policies and practices in the sector.

Lastly, HDL was represented at a research gathering on Entrepreneurship and Private Sector Development, organized by Innovation for Poverty Action (IPA), the Lab for Inclusive FinTech (LIFT), and the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) at the Berkeley Haas School of Business. These events allowed for exploration of the intersection between entrepreneurship, public policy, economic development, and the relationship between economics and education, along with the current challenges and opportunities in the field.

Throughout the year, academics from the center also attended other international seminars and conferences, solidifying their presence in the global academic sphere of education economics and development. These meetings have strengthened HDL’s role in the global debate on these issues, while fostering collaborations with renowned institutions to contribute to the design of public policies and innovative solutions.
